Our new go-to hotel for weekend escapes
I had a childhood friend who lived in this building - her father was a warden at Freo prison - and to stay here as an adult was surreal. I remember the upstairs/downstairs layout of her family home, and the conversion of this complex into hotel rooms has been thoughtfully, stylishly and sympathetically carried out.
The hotel is well run, with close attention to detail (there was even a fresh lemon in the minibar, as well as a few complimentary drinks and snacks). Being our wedding anniversary, we were also given a bottle of local bubbles to help celebrate.
Room 27U (upstairs, close to Emily Taylor restuarant) was simply & tastefully decorated. The bathroom was spacious & the king sized bed extremely comfortable. (Shame the bedside tables were tiny, and a little hard to reach - my only nit-pick of the entire experience.)
Our room rate included a free drink at Gimlet bar & cafe, as well as a coffee & pastry in the morning. We loved this little small bar. Very Freo!
We enjoyed dinner at Emily Taylor restaurant - our table in the beer garden looked into the back of Warders Hotel, which was pretty cool.
Warders Hotel might overlook a couple of car parks, but for me, having grown up here, the view felt familiar and very much Freo. I’d take the uniqueness & character of the hotel over an ‘Esplanade view’ any day.

Overall above average but as above, having a comfortable bed and access thereto is a must.
The actual bed was too big for the room, to the point that it was not possible to easily access one side of the bed due to its proximity to the adjacent wall where there was an old fireplace with a protruding mantlepiece. It meant I had to sidle sideways at an angle while holding on to the fireplace mantlepiece.
Really, with respect, it left the room not fit for quite a number of people, especially those like ourselves, retired seniors.
As we were only staying two nights we didn't make a fuss or ask for a change of room. However, we mentioned this to Laura at reception who talked about the heritage site and constraints in the room, but to put it simply, the bed was too large whereby a sightly smaller bed would have solved this issue.

Amazing
The location meant we could walk everywhere which allowed us to experience a number of the many new venues on offer in Fremantle.
We couldn't fault it and will most certainly be back, thanks for a wonderful weekend and making hubby's birthday one to remember

Not wonderful as expected.
Positives - Great location, very comfortable bed, good night’s sleep, cold taps for still and sparkling water, great toiletries, and Laura.
Negatives - A few niggles in the room, too many for the price paid. £225 sterling a night is fine to pay providing you don’t have to keep going back to reception for things to be taken care of.
Having said that, the staff are attentive, and having spoken to the hotel, Laura was outstanding on customer service, making us feel heard, and sorting the issues out.
Would we return? It would have been a definite no if Laura hadn’t been available. Now it’s a ‘maybe.’
