My dream hotel

We spent 3 nights at this beautiful boutique hotel and wished we could have stayed longer. David’s eye for interior design, delightful and attentive staff and delicious food makes this a very special place indeed. We wouldn’t use love to come back!

Beautiful place near Kandy

What a lovely find. A beautiful place with a great pool and the most lovely staff. The room was huge, and the food just great. It's about 45 minutes to an hour outside Kandy by taxi, so a perfect place from which to explore the city and retreat to a peaceful place at the end of the day.

A stylish, comfortable and stunning place to start our travels in Sri Lanka.

Relaxing and invigorating. The hotel is set among palm trees with views to the hills over Kandy. After a swim, we relaxed around the stunning pool and had freshly baked cake and cups of tea. The food is delicious, and the kitchen cooks everything to order. Bedrooms are comfortable and stylish. David, our charming host, has filled the library and sitting area with beautiful artworks and curios. Staff are warm and helpful. Can't recommend highly enough.

Home in the hills

Flame Tree Estate continues to develop .
David works tirelessly alongside his cohort to maintain and improve the already excellent facilities.
The location overlooking the jungle is beautiful and the gardens are designed to make you feel that you are in a well manicured part of it.
The menu continues to grow and is now very flexible in its choices of local and international food.
A great place to relax but also convenient for a visit to the sights of Kandy.
The staff of course are friendly and attentive.
Looking forward to our next visit especially missing the delightful dogs.

A stunning hotel with exceptional views and amazing food and service.

We chose Flame Tree after touring for a few days as a ‘recharge and rest’ location and it definitely delivered. We were picked up from our hotel in Kandy by Ajhit, the estates finance manager, for the short drive to the estate. An interesting drive up the track to the top revealed the most beautiful colonial style property. A wonderful welcome from Angelo immediately made us feel at home and a cold towel was most welcome.
We were shown through the main house out onto the terrace and pool area. The view just took my breath away, absolutely gorgeous. Down some steps to the ‘pineapple’ building we were shown to our rooms. I stayed in Flying Squirrel which I thought was a very luxurious room, as all the rooms are, with so much art and antiques. I had a huge bed looking out to the terrace and the jungle and hills beyond. The bathroom was also very large with an outdoor shower. My friend stayed in Hanging Monkey, as beautiful, and just along from me.
We made use of the pool where we were served herb tea and ‘cake of the day’. Unexpected but very delicious. This really set the standard for our stay. Dinner was a la carte and exceptional. If you don’t like spice or heat, chef will adapt dishes to suit. Everything was delicious and beautifully served. Breakfast was also a wonderful feast of fresh fruits, typical Sri Lankan or international dishes. It was my birthday on our last evening and chef created a beautiful birthday cake. I only wish I could have eaten more of it but I was happy to share with the staff and their families.
We were delighted to meet David and the ‘Directors’. David is charming and so knowledgeable about, well everything really, and he’s more than happy to share.
We didn’t move far from the pool, but there is lots to do from walking through the estate to exploring Kandy nearby.
Flame Tree is a stunning hotel where you are made to feel like a VIP. The rooms are beautifully curated with thoughtful touches and wonderful background music playing all day. The staff are discreet but always there when we needed something. From a cold glass of water to a cheeky afternoon G&T, nothing is too much trouble.
I just adored my stay here.
